Five lifestyle changes to ease the symptoms of fibromyalgia

Ruth Miller

There is, unfortunately, no cure for fibromyalgia yet. Fibromyalgia symptoms might occur frequently and could sometimes even be permanent. But the good news is some lifestyle changes can ease fibromyalgia symptoms to a great extent. Here is a list which can help you in coping with fibromyalgia symptoms.

  • Eat a nutritious and balanced diet
Take care to include a balanced diet in your lifestyle. Fiber, protein, carbohydrate, vitamins, etc. all these nutrients are mandatory in your diet.
  • Exercise regularly
Although, exercise can feel like a challenging task, especially if you are suffering from fibromyalgia. It has been demonstrated that light exercises such as aerobics actually do help in alleviating the symptoms, because exercise eases stress, releases endorphins, strengthens muscles, and improves sleeping patterns. You can incorporate a combination of aerobics, strengthening, and flexibility exercises in your workout. It can also involve walking, biking, water aerobics, and swimming. Stretching is also important and may help reduce stiffness and pain. One of the best ways to commit to an exercise is to choose a type which you would enjoy working on.
  • Get a massage
It has been observed that regular massages might help relieve some burning pain and stiffness in the body. It also helps in relaxing the muscles and increasing flexibility of the body.
  • Find time to relax
Try to loosen up by using techniques such as meditation and deep breathing. Include something in your routine or schedule every day which makes you happy. It can be anything such as painting, reading a book or something else which helps you relax.
  • Sleep well
Strive to get eight to nine hours of sleep and develop a habit of sleeping early. This regular schedule helps in achieving a deep and restful sleep. Sleep is often the most neglected aspect of our busy lives, but research has shown that deep sleep is necessary even for healthy people, and it should be treated as something non-negotiable by patients of fibromyalgia.

It is evident that change is hard, but if you take one step at a time, and try to incorporate these modifications into your lifestyle, it would undoubtedly help you in easing the severity of fibromyalgia symptoms.
