A few practical steps towards curbing non-Hodgkin lymphoma

A few practical steps towards curbing non-Hodgkin lymphoma

Laura Wilson

The type of cancer that grows on white blood cells called lymphocytes is called lymphoma. This cancer occurs in the lymph nodes and spreads like a web throughout the body. At the same time, it is the most common type of lymphoma occurring in humans. Non-Hodgkin lymphoma occurs in the lymphatic system and has different subtypes.

The abnormal presence of Reed-Sternberg cell causes non-Hodgkin lymphoma. But the question always arises as to how it can be treated. Some of the most common non-Hodgkin lymphoma treatments include chemotherapy, radiation treatment or stem cell transplant. Sometimes, as a part of non-Hodgkin lymphoma treatment, a doctor may even prescribe some medicines of strong dosages to improve and strengthen the immune system.

The symptoms of non-Hodgkin lymphoma cannot be easily detected. However, some of the common symptoms include:

  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Night sweat
  • Breathing problems
  • Severe chest pains
  • On and off painful and swollen lymph nodes of the neck area or in the armpits and sometimes even in the groin

There has been a lot of developments in the research for non-Hodgkin Lymphoma treatments. The extent of the disease can be combated, but sadly it cannot totally be prevented.

What can be done?
Non-Hodgkin lymphoma treatments include some self-control and care by the patient. A person affected by non-Hodgkins lymphoma should prevent obesity and HIV infection since these make the condition worse. For a successful treatment, one should be cautious not to have unprotected sex and avoid any kind of intravenous drugs.

Keeping body weight in control is another way of dealing with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Along with other non-Hodgkin lymphoma treatments , eating healthy and exercising to keep oneself fit is an essential practice that needs to be followed.

Though there are no total and assured prevention techniques agianst non-Hodgkin lymphoma, some medical treatments along with some healthy habits might lower the risks.
